No set limit. Very large jobs depend on your device's memory, so a computer handles big batches better than a phone.

Will merging lower the quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, without re-compressing anything.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

Remove the password first by opening the file in a PDF reader and saving a copy without it, then merge the copy.
